Rd. 11\, Cuba NM 87013) \nEvent Overview:  \nJoin the Town of Cuba and the Continental Divide Trail Coalition (CDTC) for a day of stewardship as we work together to improve two important sections of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail and surrounding public lands on Saturday\, August 1\, 2026! \nVolunteers will meet at 9:00 AM at the U.S. Forest Service Office (4 County Road 11\, Cuba\, NM) before heading out to the day’s stewardship projects. \nProjects will include: \n\nBecker Mesa Trailhead (NM 550): Light trail maintenance\, including brush removal along a ½-mile loop to improve trail visibility and navigation.\nNacimiento Mine (NM 126): Clearing brush at the trail entrance to make it more visible and accessible for CDT hikers and other recreational users.\n\nStewardship activities will take place from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM as part of the Sandoval County Fair\, offering a great opportunity to give back to the trail while enjoying one of Cuba’s signature community events. \nWhether you’re a longtime volunteer or lending a hand for the first time\, we’d love to have you join us in caring for the Continental Divide Trail! \nClick the link to register!

DESCRIPTION:Date: August 1-2\, 2026 \nLocation: Marshall Pass\, CO \nTiming: 8-10pm (arrive by 7pm if you would like a campsite) \nEvent Overview:  \nJoin Dark Sky Salida for a free “Star Party” on Saturday August 1st right along the Continental Divide Trail and Colorado Trail at Marshall Pass. This unique gathering brings together night-sky enthusiasts\, community members\, scientists\, and trail users who care about protecting the magic of truly dark skies. \nCome learn about the night sky through coached observation while experts in the field host several short lectures about the stars\, with direct observation aided by pointing with lasers. Food will be available for those who RSVP in advance\, plus any hikers and other trail users who stop by along their journeys. (Registration form coming soon!) \nFor those who want to camp overnight or come up the next morning\, CDTC Community Ambassador Justice Wise will lead a hike starting at 8:30am on Sunday 8/2 towards 13\,000 foot Chipeta Mountain along the CDT/CT. This out and back hike can range from 4-8 miles depending on conditions and participant experience levels. \nWhether you’re a stargazer\, hiker\, photographer\, or simply someone who appreciates the wonder of a sky full of stars\, this event offers a chance to connect with others who believe the night sky is worth protecting. SUMMARY:Geology: Continental Divide Trail Hike | Pagosa Springs\, CO
DESCRIPTION:San Juan Mountains Association in conjunction with the US Forest Service\, Pagosa and Bayfield Ranger Districts\, is hosting educational geology hikes\, free for the public\, from May through October. These interpretive hikes\, led and presented by geologists Dave Bouquet and Scott McAllister\, will be in an area of the San Juan National Forest rich with evidence of earth’s geologic history from some of the area’s oldest metamorphic rocks\, to Cretaceous seaways\, to Tertiary volcanoes\, to modern glacial deposits. \nVolcanic Formation of the San Juan Mountains – Continental Divide Trail Hike \nThis time we will be “going high” to escape the summer heat. Hike a short section of the famed Continental Divide Trail from the Lobo Overlook to picturesque Rock Lake. Learn about the origin of the San Juan Mountains\, created by the largest volcanic eruption by volume ever in North America. DESCRIPTION:Trail Restoration Project on Lemhi Pass\, Montana\nSaddled on the Montana- Idaho border\, Lemhi pass offers sweeping views of the valleys to the east and west. The Lewis and Clark party found themselves here in 1805 marking “the first time that white men had seen present-day Idaho”. Shoshone people and later the Blackfeet traversed this pass frquently. Volunteers will be tasked with deferred maintenance.

Volunteers will be staying in the backcountry of the Lonestar Geyser Basin as we address rebuilding a structure at the base of the geyser to keep traffic off of the delicate geothermal soil. \nThis project is full\, but you can still join the wait list.
