SUMMARY:Geology: Continental Divide Trail Hike | Pagosa Springs\, CO
DESCRIPTION:San Juan Mountains Association in conjunction with the US Forest Service\, Pagosa and Bayfield Ranger Districts\, is hosting educational geology hikes\, free for the public\, from May through October. These interpretive hikes\, led and presented by geologists Dave Bouquet and Scott McAllister\, will be in an area of the San Juan National Forest rich with evidence of earth’s geologic history from some of the area’s oldest metamorphic rocks\, to Cretaceous seaways\, to Tertiary volcanoes\, to modern glacial deposits. \nVolcanic Formation of the San Juan Mountains – Continental Divide Trail Hike \nThis time we will be “going high” to escape the summer heat. Hike a short section of the famed Continental Divide Trail from the Lobo Overlook to picturesque Rock Lake. Learn about the origin of the San Juan Mountains\, created by the largest volcanic eruption by volume ever in North America. Amazing views of the San Juans persist throughout the hike. \nFor more information\, visit the SJMA website here.

Pride on the Divide recognizes that Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual\, Transgender\, Intersex\, Asexual\, Two Spirit\, and other members of the LGBTQIA2S+ Community are an integral part of the past\, present\, and future of the CDT community. CDTC hosts Pride on the Divide every year to celebrate LGBTQIA2S+ members of our trail community and to invite the CDT trail community to join us in continuing to ensure that the CDT Experience is one that is safe\, accessible\, and enjoyable for all. SUMMARY:Pride on the Divide Community Campout 2026 | Steamboat Springs\, CO
DESCRIPTION:Save the Date for a Pride on the Divide adult-only (18+) campout in partnership with the Yampa Valley Pride and Yampatika on Friday July 10th – Saturday July 11th at the Seedhouse Campground\, next to the CDT! Come enjoy summer outside near the CDT Gateway Community of Steamboat Springs. Four sites have been reserved in advance\, so all you need to do is sign up below\, and the event organizers will follow up with more information. \nActivities will include hiking on Friday evening & Saturday mornings\, a dinner potluck\, camping games\, and star gazing (weather dependent). Participants will be required to bring their own camping gear and food for breakfast/lunch. And make sure to take part in Yampatika’s Get Outside Challenge in July 2026 and register all your activities in Northwest Colorado during the month here. \nSIGN UP HERE TODAY!\nMeet Your Program Leader: Val was born in a landlocked city on the southern edge of the plains\, Val always longed for bigger views. Soon after college she worked a season waiting tables at Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone. As often as she could\, she made it out to trails\, mountains and oceans. When she was near the Continental Divide Trail\, she would make a detour to just go put her foot on it. The CDT drew her; something about its length\, connecting three countries\, going through beauty that most people will never see. \nIn 2022\, Val and her wife drove through Steamboat on their way to a campsite. As they drove up the country road to camp\, they both said they could live in this type of place. Fast forward four years and they made Steamboat their home. Unbeknownst to them at the time\, Steamboat is a Gateway community situated practically in the middle of the CDT. Val became an CDTC Ambassador to share her love of trails\, outdoors\, the CDT and her new hometown. \nCDTC envisions a more equitable future for open lands: one in which all people are able to enjoy all the benefits of the Continental Divide landscape. Pride on the Divide recognizes that Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual\, Transgender\, Intersex\, Asexual\, Two Spirit\, and other members of the LGBTQIA2S+ Community are an integral part of the past\, present\, and future of the CDT community. SUMMARY:Pride on the Divide Community Hike 2026 | Jones Pass\, CO
DESCRIPTION:Join us for early summer\, early morning Pride on the Divide hike on Saturday June 27th at 7:30am. We’ll hike from Jones Pass southbound to Hassell Peak\, then return. The hike is about 5.2 mile round trip with 1400 feet of elevation gain. You can expect great views east and west of the Divide\, with early-season wildflowers. Experience the same alpine views as enjoyed by CDT thru hikers and section hikers! The nearest towns are Empire and Winter Park\, Colorado. \nIMPORTANT UPDATE: The hike destination has changed due to weather. The group will still meet at Jones Pass Trailhead but will be hiking to Vasquez Pass junction (4.8 mile round trip) instead of Hassell Peak.  \nSIGN UP HERE TODAY!\nThe hike will be most enjoyable for intermediate to advanced hikers in the Pride community\, family\, and friends. Pace is moderate (1.8 to 2.0 mph.) We’ll meet at the Jones Pass Trailhead parking lot by 7:20 am and carpool from there up to the CDT at 7:30am. (4-wheel-drive\, higher clearance vehicles are usually recommended to drive up to the top of Jones Pass.) The hike will end by 1pm and we will plan to be back at the trailhead by 1:30pm. \nOur entire hike is above treeline\, so we need to have an early start to avoid the afternoon storms. As always\, we’ll continually check weather conditions along the way and won’t hesitate to turn around if needed. No bikes or dogs\, please! Be sure to bring the usual items for a high elevation hike – snacks\, water\, sunscreen\, rain gear\, various layers\, etc.  \nMeet Your Leader:  Your trip leader Jenna has been an avid hiker all her life. In 2023 she finished the Colorado Trail and now has set her sights on completing the Colorado portion of the CDT within the next 2 years. She retired in 2019 (BLM and USFS) and is an active volunteer in various organizations\, including the State Parks system and the Colorado Trail Foundation. She’s a senior but happy to do tough trail work\, often cutting down trees with her large Katanaboy handsaw.
