DESCRIPTION:Walk the Continental Divide Trail past a line of volcanoes! Join CDT Ambassador Amanda Wood and local volunteer hike leaders for an easy\, 8-mile hike through the Chain of Craters\, a string of more than 25 cinder cones in El Malpais National Conservation Area. The trail winds through piñon and juniper woodland\, with ponderosa pines at higher elevations. \nThis hike is part of Cibola Outdoors’ College Outdoor Recreation Weekend\, and community members are welcome to join the students on the trail. Plan for up to five hours. \nGood to know: \n\nBring water\, snacks\, and sun protection.\nDress in layers. Fall mornings near Grants start cold.\nThe trail is marked by rock cairns. Stay with the group.\nWear sturdy shoes for rocky\, cinder-covered ground.

DESCRIPTION:Take in El Malpais from above! Join CDT Ambassador Amanda Wood and local volunteer hike leaders for a 5-mile hike on the Narrows Rim Trail. The trail climbs onto a 500-foot sandstone mesa and follows its rim\, looking down on the lava flows that poured through the Narrows below. \nThis hike is part of Cibola Outdoors’ College Outdoor Recreation Weekend\, and community members are welcome to join the students on the trail. It’s rated moderate to hard\, so plan for up to four hours. \nGood to know: \n\nThe trail sits above 7\,000 feet. Bring plenty of water and dress in layers.\nStay on the trail and back from the cliff edges.\nWear sturdy shoes with good grip for slickrock and uneven ground.
