SUMMARY:Cibola Trail Days Bat Hike | El Calderon\, NM
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Bat Out-flight Guided Hike as we watch bats emerge from the Bat Cave!  \nDate: September 7\, 2024 \nTime: 6:15 pm – 8:15 pm \nLocation: El Calderon Trailhead (https://maps.app.goo.gl/eSeYVsPVeL3jHWQX8) \nDirections: Located 20 miles south of Grants on Highway 53 \nHike Details: \nDifficulty: Easy \nThis 2-mile round trip guided hike starts from the El Calderon parking area. The path to the cave where bats fly is graveled and wide in most spots but does get narrow as it follows a deep drop off near a lava tube cave. \nWhat to bring: Water and a source of light that is not a phone. It will be dark when returning to the parking area. Wear layered clothing as weather can change unpredictably\, especially after the sun goes down. Each hike is led by experienced guides passionate about the outdoors and eager to share their knowledge about the CDT. \nDate: September 7th\, 2024Time: 8:00am – 3:00pm \nLocation: Zuni/Acoma Trailhead (https://maps.app.goo.gl/EFhzBVHDMHzdtwMQ6) \nDirections: From Interstate I-40 take exit 81 and head south on NM 53 for 16.3 miles and turn left into theZuni/Acoma Trailhead parking lot. \nHike Details: \nTrail Difficulty: HardThis hike will be a 7.5-mile trek across the El Malpais Natl. Monument from the Zuni/Acoma Trailhead on NM 53 to the Acoma/Zuni Trailheadon NM 117. The hike will travel through the lava beds and some grassland areas. We will shuttle people back to their vehicles at the end of the hike.  \nIf some participants choose to hike back to Zuni/Acoma trailhead they are more than welcome to at anytime during the hike\,but it is encouraged that all participants complete the entire 7.5 mile hike one way for safety concerns. \n**All participants will need to bring a lunch with them and plenty of water\, since the hike will takeanywhere from 6 to 8 hours to complete. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring a backpack and leather gloves. \n\nTrail Cautions:Jagged lava along most of the entire hike.Snakes/reptilesIncumbent weather (be prepared for rain showers that may occur) \n  \n\n\nNOTE: We will keep an update on weather conditions and inform participants if needed. \nPlease contact ctorivio@cdtcoalition.org with questions or for more information.
