CDTC-REI Opt Outside Pride Hike: Waterton Canyon | Littleton, CO
Opt Outside close to home with CDTC and REI Co-op! Join Claire Cutler, CDTC’s Trail Policy Specialist, for a short, family-friendly hike up Waterton Canyon. The South Platte River runs between steep canyon walls here, and you might spot bighorn sheep along the way. The canyon is also the start of the Colorado Trail, which shares part of its route with the CDT farther west.
This hike is part of Opt Outside, REI Co-op’s movement to spend time outside instead of shopping, and it’s also a Pride on the Divide celebration of the LGBTQ+ community on the Continental Divide Trail. Everyone is welcome. There’s no wrong way to Opt Outside®.
We’ll hike about 3 to 4 miles out and back on the wide canyon road, or farther if the group wants. Snacks, giveaways, and other goodies are on us. Share your photos with #OptOutside and tag @REI and @cdtcoalition.
Good to know:
- Please leave dogs at home. Denver Water doesn’t allow pets in the canyon, to protect the bighorn sheep.
- Give wildlife plenty of space.
- Carpool if you can.
- Dress in layers and bring water.
