Dark Sky Star Party | Salida, CO
Date: August 1-2, 2026
Location: Marshall Pass, CO
Timing: 8-10pm (arrive by 7pm if you would like a campsite)
Event Overview:
Join Dark Sky Salida for a free “Star Party” on Saturday August 1st right along the Continental Divide Trail and Colorado Trail at Marshall Pass. This unique gathering brings together night-sky enthusiasts, community members, scientists, and trail users who care about protecting the magic of truly dark skies.
Come learn about the night sky through coached observation while experts in the field host several short lectures about the stars, with direct observation aided by pointing with lasers. Food will be available for those who RSVP in advance, plus any hikers and other trail users who stop by along their journeys. (Registration form coming soon!)
For those who want to camp overnight or come up the next morning, CDTC Community Ambassador Justice Wise will lead a hike starting at 8:30am on Sunday 8/2 towards 13,000 foot Chipeta Mountain along the CDT/CT. This out and back hike can range from 4-8 miles depending on conditions and participant experience levels.
Whether you’re a stargazer, hiker, photographer, or simply someone who appreciates the wonder of a sky full of stars, this event offers a chance to connect with others who believe the night sky is worth protecting. We hope to see you there! Learn more about the CDT Dark Sky guide here.
