Snow resources for the San Juans

June 15, 2021

GOLDEN, Colo. (June 14, 2021) –  As Northbound CDT travelers enter San Juan mountains, we want to remind trail users that these rugged and remote areas are experiencing high snow and that specific skills, equipment, and knowledge are needed to safely navigate these environments. If you are unsure if you have the capability to safely complete a trip through these areas, wait and do not risk your safety. There are also lower-elevation alternates that may be considered. The Continental Divide Trail has always had room for alternates, and we encourage all CDT travelers to make sure their safety is the first priority when determining a route.
