Pride on the Divide Community Hike | Dumont Lake, CO
Join us for an early season Pride on the Divide hike on Sunday June 29th at 9am near Dumont Lake to see some beautiful wildflowers, in addition to the mountain views! We’ll meet at the Rabbit Ears Peak Trailhead at 9am, just outside the CDT Gateway Community of Steamboat Springs, and plan to be back to the cars by 12pm. As always, we’ll be checking the weather enroute, turning around early if needed.
The hike will be most enjoyable for beginning and intermediate hikers in the LGBTQIA+ community, family, and friends. Pace will be moderate, and no bikes or dogs please! Be sure to bring the usual items for a Continental Divide Trail hike at high altitude – snacks, water, sunscreen, rain gear, various layers, etc. A special thanks to Yampatika for their support of this program!
SIGN UP HERE TODAY! (TBD)
Meet Your Program Leader: Val was born in a landlocked city on the southern edge of the plains, Val always longed for bigger views. Soon after college she worked a season waiting tables at Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone. As often as she could, she made it out to trails, mountains and oceans. When she was near the Continental Divide Trail, she would make a detour to just go put her foot on it. The CDT drew her; something about its length, connecting three countries, going through beauty that most people will never see.
In 2022, Val and her wife drove through Steamboat on their way to a campsite. As they drove up the country road to camp, they both said they could live in this type of place. Fast forward two years and they made Steamboat their home. Unbeknownst to them at the time, Steamboat is a Gateway community situated practically in the middle of the CDT. Val became an CDTC Ambassador to share her love of trails, outdoors, the CDT and her new hometown.
CDTC envisions a more equitable future for open lands: one in which all people are able to enjoy all the benefits of the Continental Divide landscape. Pride on the Divide recognizes that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Asexual, Two Spirit, and other members of the LGBTQIA2S+ Community are an integral part of the past, present, and future of the CDT community. CDTC hosts Pride on the Divide every year to celebrate LGBTQIA2S+ members of our trail community and to invite the CDT trail community to join us in continuing to ensure that the CDT Experience is one that is safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all.
